Hi Tess,

There is some overlap if you opt for the route to Rifugio Dibona (rather than the direct route down to Lagazuoi Pass), so I don’t think it’s necessary to do this hike independently of the AV1.

Kindly,
Sabrina

Hi Jeremy,

Yes, reversing the route makes a lot of sense – that way you’ll ascend the more demanding sections. This works well as a leisurely 2-day hike. Eat lunch at Rifugio Bolzano and maybe a second lunch at Gostner Schwaige on the plateau.

Have a great trip!
Sabrina

Love your blog! It’s super informative and I’ve been really enjoying it as I plan a trip to Val Gardena next year. I will be travelling with my parents (late 60s) who are physically fit but my Mom has a fear of heights if the trail narrows and there is a steep drop. She is also much more surefooted going up versus descending, so any of those sections would be better for her going up. I’d love to do this loop with them as a two day hike, staying at Rifugio Alpe di Tires. My only concern is the steep descent you describe coming back from Rifugio Alpe di Tires. What would this loop be like if you did it in reverse? Do you think that would make things better for her? And do you think doing this as a 2 day with a stop for lunch at Rifugio Bolzano on the second day is a good plan? Thank you!

Have been loving your blogs. Is this worthwhile if I am already doing Alta Via 1 or can it be combined? Thank you!

We are planing to go in July and we are driving with a campervan. Can you suggest us some places or recommend where to park for the campervan in the dolomities. We wann to stay in Alta Badia, near Lake Braise, to hike the Tre crime, and in Cortina dAmpezzo, Val di Funes.
