No, we can’t recall seeing anyone hiking with a dog. It should be doable, though the trail crosses grazing areas, which is something to be mindful of.

Hiking is the main activity in the Braies/Prags Dolomites. You could also explore Prato Piazza during your stay.

We will get there close to dinner the first night so will have two full days to explore. We will not have a car. We definitely plan on hiking

You can pre-book the Dobbiaco/Toblach to Lago di Braies shuttle on prags.bz
I don’t think you need to pre-book the first leg of the journey: Cortina to Toblach.

Parking is never free in any of the lots near Lago di Braies.

That’s right. You can also book the P4 car park, Hotel Braies’ car park, directly at the lake.
