Hotel Auszeit: Boutique Hotel in Pertisau, Lake Achensee, Austria

Hotel Auszeit is a 4-star, boutique hotel in the heart of Pertisau village at Lake Achensee

Run by the same family since 1939, this welcoming accommodation offers relaxing spa facilities, a heated outdoor pool (open all-year-long), and a sumptuous breakfast.

Hotel Auszeit is an adults-only hotel, which means that all guests must be 12+ years old. The purpose of the age threshold is to ensure a serene and rejuvenating environment for all guests.

Located between the Karwendel mountains and Tyrol’s largest lake, this charming hotel is an ideal base for exploring the Karwendel Nature Park, the Rofan Mountains, and Achensee Lake.

Hotel Auszeit’s motto is “alles können, nichts müssen,” which means you can do everything, but you don’t have to do anything. If the weather is stormy, or you simply need a break from active pursuits, you can take a “Time Out” and relish the hotel’s pool, wellness area, mountain-facing terrace, and garden.

Hotel Auszeit only offers breakfast. For other meals, you can dine in the village and in the various huts, peppered across the surrounding mountains.

The Location

Pertisau, Achensee, Tyrol, Austria

Set in the village of Pertisau, only 200 meters from the lakeshore, Hotel Auszeit enjoys easy access to the Pertisau promenade and Pertisau beach.

The hotel itself is surrounded by meadows. You can see the mountains from the hotel premises.

Hotel Auszeit is also walking distance to the Karwendel-Bergbahn cableway, which connects Pertisau with Zwölferkopf mountain, the starting point of the well-known Bärenkopf summit hike.

Pertisau is the gateway to three valleys that lead into Karwendel Nature Park: Tristenautal, Falzthurntal, and Gerntal. These valleys are etched with cross-country routes, mountain biking paths, and hiking trails.

In winter, Pertisau is a great base for cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, and family-friendly skiing.

In summer and fall, there are an abundance of hiking trails starting in Pertisau, or nearby. For a low-key, kid-friendly adventure, we recommend hiking from Pertisau to Gaisalm hut along the lakeside path.

Mountain hikers will love the Lamsenjochhütte and Hahnkampel circuit trail starting in Gramaialm (moderate), the Seekarspitze – Seebergspitze ridge trail (difficult) starting in Pertisau, or Achenkirch (difficult), the Hochiss summit hike starting at Rofanseilbahn mountain station (moderately difficult), and the Unnütz circuit trail starting in Achenkirch (difficult).

From Pertisau, you’re also well positioned to visit Grosser Ahornboden, Wolfsklamm Gorge, and tackle other hikes around Innsbruck.

Lunch and Dinner around Pertisau

Hotel Auszeit is a breakfast-only hotel. For dinner, we recommend eating at the charming Entners Wirtshaus am See, or the casual Hotel Christina – Café Konditorei Restaurant. Both of these restaurants are a short walk away.

Other dining options include Alpenrose, Café Erika, Dorfwirt, and Langlauf Stube.

Wellness and Spa

Relaxation Room, Hotel Auszeit Spa, Pertisau, Achensee, Austria

Using a combination of sounds (bird song, trickling water, zen music) and low lighting, Hotel Auszeit’s wellness area is a sensually-curated space that promotes relaxation.

The 700m2 wellness area spans two floors. The upper floor comprises the massage room and a quiet relaxation room, lined with bean bag loungers overlooking the mountains.

Guests can sign up for therapeutic massages (fascia therapy and spinal therapy), classic massages (full body, aroma oil, hot stone, anti-stress, foot reflex, lymphatic drainage, and Lomi Lomi), and 20-minute WellSystem Relax Plus sessions.

The lower floor is made up of the sauna area, two relaxation rooms, and a tea bar. The larger relaxation room contains waterbeds, egg basket swings, bean bags, and loungers.

There are three saunas (1 steam bath and 2 Finnish-style saunas) in the textile-free zone and one additional, textile-optional sauna near the tea bar.

Heated pool, garden, Hotel Auszeit, Pertisau, Austria

From the lower level, guests can access the heated, outdoor swimming pool, which extends across the garden. The pool is open all-year-long.

In the evening, the space is illuminated with candles, creating a peaceful oasis.

The age threshold definitely contributes to the peacefulness of the spa area.

The family and staff is very friendly and cheerful.

We felt well taken care of during our 3-night stay.

Final Thoughts

Hotel Auszeit Pool and Garden, Pertisau, Tyrol

Hotel Auszeit is a charming hotel with a central location, delicious breakfast, and tranquil spa area.

If you’re visiting Lake Achensee outside of the summer season, the heated outdoor pool is a very nice perk.

The only things that could be improved are the sound proofing and the smoking policy. Guests can smoke on balconies. As a non-smoker, we found this bothersome.

When to Visit Austria

We recommend visiting Austria between June and October for hiking and between December and March for skiing and winter adventuring.

Summer Travel | Summer in Austria

Autumn Travel | Autumn in Austria

Winter Travel | December in Salzburg, December in Vienna, and January in Vienna

Getting around Austria

Austria has an excellent public transit system. We’ve used it extensively to travel throughout the country. We highly recommend using transit if you’re visiting cities (Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, etc…), and/or doing hut-to-hut hikes.

Some areas like Mayrhofen, Schladming and Lech am Arlberg have wonderful seasonal transit systems in place (e.g. summer hiking buses). However, if you’re not visiting during the high season, bus frequencies are significantly reduced and it’s far easier to get around with your own vehicle.

If you’re planning on visiting multiple destinations across Austria, we recommend renting a car.

Use these road trip itineraries for trip planning inspiration:

Car Rental

We recommend using the Discovercars.com car rental reservation platform to search for and book car rentals. This easy-to-use booking platform compares car rental deals from 500+ trusted providers, so that you can choose the best option for your trip.

If you’re driving into Austria from a neighboring country, don’t forget to purchase a vignette at/near the border.

Hut to Hut Hiking in Austria

Austria is a premier hut-to-hut and long-distance hiking destination. The quality of the mountain huts are superb. We particularly love the high-alpine trails, which are called Höhenwege in German. We’ve summarized our favorite multi-day hikes in Trekking Austria.
